Inside Line Promotions – PLYMOUTH, Wis. (Sept. 30, 2020) – Kyle Schuett posted a pair of top-15 finishes, including an eighth-place run, during a weekend doubleheader in Wisconsin with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series.
“We had a pretty good weekend,” he said. “We’re definitely improving.”
Schuett’s weekend began on Friday night with his second visit to Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, where he finished 14th three weeks prior.
“We could have used a little more gear for qualifying and I made a couple of mistakes so we timed in 12th quickest,” he said. “That put us on the pole for a heat race. We got the lead at the start and led the rest of the way, putting us in the redraw for a dash.”
Schuett drew the second starting spot in a dash.
“At the start I started about half a lane lower than the leader,” he said. “Unfortunately, it was slick there. When I finally got up to the cushion, two cars had more momentum than me and got by. I dropped to fourth and finished there, putting us in the eighth starting spot for the feature.
“I kind of hung around eighth for most of the race and eventually finished there. I passed a couple of cars and then got passed by a couple of others. The good thing was that I was getting more consistent and improving as the race went on. It was a good finish.”
Schuett moved on to Plymouth Dirt Track for Saturday night. It was also his second visit there.
“Most everyone ran the cushion in qualifying, but I ran the bottom and timed in 10th quickest, just two tenths off quick time,” he said. “I started on the pole in my heat and led the first lap, but then Bill Balog got by and I finished second, one spot from making the dash.”
That slotted Schuett 12th in the A Main lineup.
“I fell back to 16th or 17th and battled with a bunch of cars for most of the race,” he said. “I eventually finished 14th. We weren’t terrible, but we need to get better. It was another learning night. I realize that I’m probably being a little too careful passing cars. Instead of giving them extra room, I should just slide them and go.”
Next up for Schuett is during the Gold Crown Midget Nationals at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill., this Friday and Saturday with the Built Ford Tough MOWA Sprint Car Series.
“We’ve only raced Tri-City once before with a sprint car,” he said. “That was our second sprint car race ever in April of last year. We finished fifth, but we got kind of lucky with others crashing and dropping out. I’m anxious to see how we do this time. We’ve raced about 30 times since then and we’ve improved a lot. It should be interesting.”
