Inside Line Promotions – BEAVER DAM, Wis. (July 28, 2020) – Minor damage from an early racing incident most likely kept Kyle Schuett from scoring a podium finish with the Built Ford Tough MOWA Sprint Car Series last Friday night at Jacksonville Speedway.
“The guys on the front row were kind of playing games at the start and I bumped the guy in front of me,” said Schuett, who drew the fifth starting position after winning his heat race. “I had moved up to third by Lap 6 when I noticed my nose wing was collapsed to the left from the contact. A couple of laps later the wing caught my left front tire. It prevented me from correcting my steering and spun me out.
“I was pushed into the work area and the crew was waiting with the new parts to get it fixed quickly to get us back out on the track. We restarted at the back of the field and raced back up to 13th. If it wasn’t for that bump at the start, we probably would’ve run in the top three. It was just one of those racing deals.”
Schuett felt good about his chances of having a good run at Jacksonville Speedway going into the evening.
“We were pretty confident going into Jacksonville because of the things we had learned there the week before,” he said. “Our car was fast in the heat race, too. We started third and took the lead on Lap 2 and pulled away for the win.”
After the early success and then the spin in the feature, Schuett rallied to post a 13th-place result.
The team headed north on Saturday for competition with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Series at Beaver Dam Raceway.
“I made a mistake in qualifying and we wound up 14th (of 29 drivers),” Schuett said. “But we were still only two tenths from second quickest so the slightest mistake makes a big difference.”
Schuett was scheduled to start fifth in his heat race.
“A guy got a flat tire so I got moved up to third,” he said. “I dropped back to fourth, but was able to get back to third and stayed there. We missed the redraw by one spot and started 11th in the feature.
“In the feature I dropped back to 13th or 14th before I got back to 11th. At the finish the cars in sixth through 10th were right in front of me, but I just got going too late. It turned out to be another learning opportunity.”
The second-year sprint car driver will take this weekend off before racing with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series at Federated Auto Parts Raceway in Pevely, Mo., on Aug. 7-8.
“We raced in Pevely in May and we’re definitely better now than we were then,” he said. “But this is with the Outlaws so the competition will be the best.”
