Inside Line Promotions – JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (May 27, 2019) – Kyle Schuett advanced to a seventh-place finish at Jacksonville Speedway last Friday during a Built Ford Tough MOWA Sprint Car Series event. It was the rookie 410ci sprint car driver’s third top-10 result in five starts.
“We finally had our first night where we had full power all night after battling timing and mag issues in each of our other races,” he said. “We were able to pass some cars in the feature and get our third top 10 in our fifth race in a 410 so it was a good night.”
Schuett’s night began by qualifying 11th quickest out of the 24-car field.
“We’re still learning about qualifying through time trials,” he said. “This was just our second time qualifying with the 410 and we rarely did it with our midget. I think we’ll get better at it with more experience.”
With a four-car inversion, the qualifying effort put Schuett on the pole for his heat race.
“I had a good start and took the lead, but we had a yellow before we completed a lap,” he said. “On the second start, the guy outside of me got the jump and the lead. I ran second for a few laps before Paul Nienhiser got by me. I followed him the rest of the race and tried to learn a few things and eventually finished third.”
Schuett began the night’s main event in the 11th starting position.
“I was in 10th for about the first five or six laps while most of us were running the top of the track,” he said. “Then I started running the bottom in turns three and four and was able to pass a couple of cars. Eventually the bottom went away and I moved back to the top. I had worked my way up to sixth near the end of the race until a guy passed me in the final corner coming to the checkered.”
With rain forcing the cancellation of the following night’s MOWA Series race at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., Schuett is looking forward to racing with the series at Macon Speedway in Macon, Ill., this Thursday.
“We’ve raced there quite a bit with our midget so we’re familiar with the track,” he said. “It’s only a fifth-mile track so I think it’s important to start near the front since it’s so easy to get lapped there. We’ll stick with our primary goal of running all the laps and getting a decent finish. It’s working well for us so far.”
