Kyle Schuett and the Schuett Racing Inc. team have worked tirelessly throughout the off season to become a front runner with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series in 2022, and the Philo, IL based operation took a big step in the right direction on opening night.
Kyle began the night with a bang, clocking in the 4th fastest time in IRA Qualifying, the team’s best ever time trials result with “The Best of the Upper Midwest.”
“Starting the night with our best ever IRA Qualifying was great.” Kyle Schuett said. “It definitely showed right off the bat that we made the right choices in the off season in consulting with Jeff Davis and helped give us some confidence going into the rest of the night.”
After qualifying was complete, the track began to develop some extra character due to heavy rainfall that occurred during the week at the Beaver Dam Raceway.
“The track got a little choppy after qualifying and I’ve always struggled with that type of track condition.” Kyle said. “We fell back one spot in both the heat and the dash, but I learned a lot about what to do and what not to do in the seat for those track conditions.”
A 4th place in his heat and 5th in Dash #1 put the Progressive Propane 9K in the 9th starting spot for the season opening 30 lap A Main.
Utilizing a lightning-fast top groove, the Philo, IL native held spirited battles with the likes of Danny Schlafer, Jack Routson, defending series Champion Jake Blackhurst and Josh Schneiderman. While fighting for 8th place with Schneiderman and Blackhurst on the final lap, the red flag was displayed for a tipped over Scott Biertzer in turn 2. The Top 5 runners had already crossed the finish line, and thus the race was made official, with Schuett behind Schneiderman and in front of Blackhurst in 9th place.
“Overall, a 9th in the Feature was a good result for the first time out this season.” The 2021 IRA Rookie of the Year stated about the night’s events. “I just need to fix some of my driving techniques for when the track reaches those rougher conditions. I can’t thank Jeff and Jill Davis enough for all their help and guidance over the winter and this past weekend and joining the team for the rest of the season. We’re really looking forward to the rest of this year!”
